Import a photo and tap to match
Open the app and choose "Import Photo" from your camera roll, Safari share sheet, or any photo you've saved. Once the image is loaded, tap anywhere on the surface whose color you want to match. The app samples a cluster of pixels around your tap point to average the true color, then searches its paint database for the closest matches.
Results are ranked by color distance, so the closest match appears first. Each result includes the brand name, official color name, color chip preview, and the product code you'll need at the paint counter.
Why color matching from photos is tricky — and how the app handles it
Camera sensors and display screens interpret color differently than the human eye. A photo taken in warm indoor light will shift a true white toward yellow; a photo taken outdoors on a bright day can wash out subtle differences between similar shades. The app corrects for these lighting biases using image processing to recover the underlying color before matching it to the database.
For best results, photograph the surface in even, natural light — avoiding direct sunlight or harsh indoor spotlights — and tap a well-lit section of the surface that isn't in shadow.
Matching colors from inspiration images
Interior design photos from Instagram, Pinterest, Houzz, or shelter magazines are among the most common sources people use. Screenshot or save the inspiration image, import it into the app, and tap the wall, cabinet, or trim you want to replicate. You'll get the nearest real paint match in seconds.
You can match multiple areas in the same photo — tap the wall for the wall color, tap the trim for the trim color, and the app builds a palette of coordinated matches that you can export or share.
From match to store
Once you've found your color match, tap the result to see the full product details including the store locator for that brand. The app copies the color code to your clipboard so you can paste it directly into the paint store's order form or show the store associate the exact code to mix.
Every matched color is saved to your history, so you won't lose it between the app and the paint store.
